What we will explore together
Ever wondered what it feels like to shape something from Earth? This workshop is designed for those who wish to step away from the noise of the world and find focus at the pottery wheel. Specifically curated for beginners with no prior experience, this session offers a gentle, expert-guided introduction to the foundational language of clay.
Clay Preparation: An introduction to wedging (the process of removing air bubbles) and how to scale and cut your clay to ensure it is ready for throwing.
Wheel Mechanics: Understanding the equipment, including correct seating ergonomics, hand positioning, and how to control the speed of the pottery wheel.
The Centering Process: A practical introduction to the most vital step! learning how to secure and align the clay in the middle of the spinning wheel.
Basic Forms: An exploration of pulling techniques, where you will practice the coordinated hand movements required to raise walls and create a basic cylinder shape.
For your safety, please tie back long hair and remove rings, watches, and hand jewellery, as they can easily get caught in the spinning wheel. We also suggest keeping nails short to ensure the best control over your clay.
Good to Know
Once your session is complete. We handle the delicate transition from earth to art: a 960°C bisque firing, followed by a dip in transparent stoneware glaze, and a final 1200°C glaze firing. This high-heat "vitrification" ensures your piece isn't just beautiful, but food-safe, waterproof, and built to last.
Patience is Part of the Process! Good things take time. Due to the drying and firing cycles, your work will be ready for pickup in 3 to 4 weeks.
One piece is included in your workshop fee; fell in love with more of your creations? We offer professional glazing and firing for additional pieces at €14 per item.
Want to Finish the Story Yourself and add the final touch? We highly recommend our Glazing Workshops for beginners, or our Open Studio for those experienced with glaze application. Here, you can decorate your pieces with ceramic paints and apply a protective transparent glaze. A selection of premium, ready-made glazes is also available for purchase at the studio to further customise your creations.

Making on the Pottery Wheel , The full journey.
At Zolta, we honor the slow, meditative rhythm required to transform raw earth into functional art. The journey begins on the pottery wheel with a ball of clay in its most malleable state, perfect for capturing form and movement. Once shaped, the piece must rest, drying slowly under cover for several days to reach the leather-hard stage. This controlled drying period is essential, as the clay must be firm enough to be handled yet carvable enough to allow us to trim the base and refine the silhouette with precision.
The patience continues for another week as the piece reaches the bone-dry stage, where every trace of moisture must evaporate to prevent it from cracking in the heat. Only then is it ready for its first transformation: a two-day kiln cycle for the bisque firing at 960°C, which creates a durable, porous canvas. After glazing, the final act occurs during the glaze firing, a second two-day cycle reaching 1200°C. This intense heat vitrifies the clay, melting minerals into a glass-like finish that is food-safe and waterproof. From raw earth to a finished vessel, the three-to-four-week process is a testament to the beauty of patience, heat, and focused intent.
