What we will explore together
Over three days, you will dive into the complete ceramic process, transforming raw clay into finished pieces.
Day 1 is all about the wheel, where you’ll learn to wedge, center, and shape everything from classic cylinders to bowls and cups.
Day 2 focuses on "cleaning up" your work, where you will trim away excess clay to define the final shapes, learn how to trim the base and create different styles of feet, and add handles or decorative details.
After a two-week break for drying and the first firing, we return for Day 3 to explore color and surface decoration using underglazes and final transparent glaze to bring your pieces to life.
For your safety, please tie back long hair and remove rings, watches, and hand jewellery, as they can easily get caught in the spinning wheel. We also suggest keeping nails short to ensure the best control over your clay.
Good to Know
Each participant will receive 5–8kg of clay to practice with, providing plenty of material to experiment as you keep up to 3 of your favourite finished pieces.
If you fall in love with more of your creations, we offer professional glazing and firing for additional items at €14 per piece.
Once your session is complete, we handle the delicate transition from earth to art: a 960°C bisque firing, followed by your own application of stoneware underglaze and glaze, and a final 1200°C glaze firing. This high-heat process ensures your work is not only beautiful but food-safe, waterproof, and built to last.
Patience is part of the process, as drying and firing cycles mean your finished creations will be ready for pickup in 3 to 4 weeks.
To further customize your work, a selection of premium, ready-made glazes is also available for purchase at the studio.
For those eager to make more, our Friday Open Studio offers dedicated spots for independent making.

Making on the Pottery Wheel , The full journey.
At Zolta, we honor the slow, meditative rhythm required to transform raw earth into functional art. The journey begins on the pottery wheel with a ball of clay in its most malleable state, perfect for capturing form and movement. Once shaped, the piece must rest, drying slowly under cover for several days to reach the leather-hard stage. This controlled drying period is essential, as the clay must be firm enough to be handled yet carvable enough to allow us to trim the base and refine the silhouette with precision.
The patience continues for another week as the piece reaches the bone-dry stage, where every trace of moisture must evaporate to prevent it from cracking in the heat. Only then is it ready for its first transformation: a two-day kiln cycle for the bisque firing at 960°C, which creates a durable, porous canvas. After glazing, the final act occurs during the glaze firing, a second two-day cycle reaching 1200°C. This intense heat vitrifies the clay, melting minerals into a glass-like finish that is food-safe and waterproof. From raw earth to a finished vessel, the three-to-four-week process is a testament to the beauty of patience, heat, and focused intent.
