The Zolta Kids Summer Camp is an immersive, hands-on journey where children explore the world of clay through making, experimenting, and creative play. Over six sessions, young creators are introduced to professional ceramic techniques, transforming their imagination into unique, fired works of art. The program begins with an introduction to the earth and the pottery wheel, where children learn how clay moves and enjoy their first guided practice in centering and shaping. As they progress, they move into the art of refinement, learning to trim and balance their wheel-thrown pieces to create smooth, finished shapes
Program Structure
Â
- Day 1 | Clay & The Wheel: An introduction to the earth, what is clay, and how does it move? Children enjoy their first guided experience on the pottery wheel.
- Day 2 | Wheel Practice: A live demonstration followed by focused time to practice centering and shaping clay on the rotating wheel.
- Day 3 | Trimming & Form: Learning the art of refinement. Kids learn how to finish their wheel-thrown pieces, focusing on balance and smooth silhouettes.
- Day 4 | Hand-Building: An introduction to ancestral methods: pinching, coiling, and slab-building, using only hands and simple wooden tools.
- Day 5 | Sculpting & Modeling: A day of free-form creation. Children develop their own sculptural ideas, focusing on texture and three-dimensional expression.
- Day 6 | Detail & Color: A joyful final session dedicated to surface decoration using professional underglazes to bring finished pieces to life.
Good to Know
Â
Zolta Summer Camp is a once-a-year program with two small groups of six children each. The morning group is held in German, and the afternoon group is held in English.
Once the Summer Camp is complete. We handle the delicate transition from earth to art: a 960°C bisque firing, followed by a dip in transparent stoneware glaze, and a final 1200°C glaze firing. This high-heat "vitrification" ensures your piece isn't just beautiful, but food-safe, waterproof, and built to last.
Patience is Part of the Process! Good things take time. Due to the drying and firing cycles, your work will be ready for pickup in 3 to 4 weeks.Â
six piece is included in your workshop fee; fell in love with more of your creations? We offer professional glazing and firing for additional pieces at €14 per item.
For those eager to make more, our Friday Open Studio offers dedicated spots for independent making.
Making ceramics, The full journey.
At Zolta, we honor the slow, meditative rhythm required to transform raw earth into sculptural art. The journey begins with the manual manipulation of clay in its most malleable state, pinching, coiling, or slab-building to capture organic form and spatial movement. Once the structure is realized, the sculpture must rest, drying slowly under cover for several days to reach the leather-hard stage. This controlled drying period is essential; the clay must be firm enough to support its own weight, yet carvable enough to allow us to refine the silhouette and etch fine details with precision.
The patience continues for another week as the piece reaches the bone-dry stage, where every trace of atmospheric moisture must evaporate to ensure the sculpture’s integrity in the heat. Only then is it ready for its first transformation: a two-day kiln cycle for the bisque firing at 960°C, which creates a durable, porous canvas. After the careful application of glazes or oxides, the final act occurs during the glaze firing, a second two-day cycle reaching 1200°C. This intense heat vitrifies the stoneware, fusing minerals into a permanent, stone-like finish. From raw earth to a finished sculpture, the three-to-four-week process is a testament to the beauty of patience, heat, and focused intent.
