What we will explore together
In this two-part workshop, you will handbuild up to three personalized pieces for your breakfast set, choosing from round, oval, or organic freeform shapes to create a set that is entirely yours.
Session I: Designing & Shaping. Focus on the foundation of your pieces. Using slab-building, pinching, and rolling techniques, you will shape your selection, whether it’s plates (up to 25 cm), bowls, cups, or a cheese plate. You’ll experiment with textures and silhouettes to bring your vision to life.
Using natural materials like pressed flowers or plants is great for added detail; feel free to bring your own for a personal touch.
Session II: Detail & Color. Return for the final stage of the process to polish your work. You will refine the surfaces, smooth out the edges, and add any final decorative elements. To finish, you will use professional underglazes to paint and add color, defining the final look of your set.
To help you work the clay with precision and avoid accidental marks on the surface of your sculpture, we recommend arriving with short-trimmed nails.
Good to Know
Once your session is complete. We handle the delicate transition from earth to art: a 960°C bisque firing, followed by a dip in transparent stoneware glaze, and a final 1200°C glaze firing. This high-heat "vitrification" ensures your piece isn't just beautiful, but food-safe, waterproof, and built to last.
Patience is Part of the Process! Good things take time. Due to the drying and firing cycles, your work will be ready for pickup in 3 to 4 weeks.
Three piece is included in your workshop fee; fell in love with more of your creations? We offer professional glazing and firing for additional pieces at €14 per item.
For those eager to make more, our Friday Open Studio offers dedicated spots for independent making.

Making ceramics, The full journey.
At Zolta, we honor the slow, meditative rhythm required to transform raw earth into sculptural art. The journey begins with the manual manipulation of clay in its most malleable state, pinching, coiling, or slab-building to capture organic form and spatial movement. Once the structure is realized, the sculpture must rest, drying slowly under cover for several days to reach the leather-hard stage. This controlled drying period is essential; the clay must be firm enough to support its own weight, yet carvable enough to allow us to refine the silhouette and etch fine details with precision.
The patience continues for another week as the piece reaches the bone-dry stage, where every trace of atmospheric moisture must evaporate to ensure the sculpture’s integrity in the heat. Only then is it ready for its first transformation: a two-day kiln cycle for the bisque firing at 960°C, which creates a durable, porous canvas. After the careful application of glazes or oxides, the final act occurs during the glaze firing, a second two-day cycle reaching 1200°C. This intense heat vitrifies the stoneware, fusing minerals into a permanent, stone-like finish. From raw earth to a finished sculpture, the three-to-four-week process is a testament to the beauty of patience, heat, and focused intent.
